Coal crushing at a Seaport

How to speed up procedures when you need to crush coal at a seaport?

This is exactly what our customer asked himself when he undertook a coal crushing work in Southern India, specifically at Vizag Port, which required a specific crushing application with XCMG XE201 as the base machine. They needed to crush coal with an input size range of 250mm-300mm and an output size of 100mm, with a desired productivity of 30-35TPH, as part of a long-term contract for coal unloading and crushing.

Initially, the customer considered a track-mounted crusher, but due to the high capital expenditure, they decided to research alternative options. After evaluating several crusher buckets, the customer selected the MB Crusher BF90.3.

Not all the ports are similar

When we think about Ports, we think about quiet places where boads float in calm waters and people enjoy a quiet walk along the decks. But commercial ports are something different. A commercial port is a facility that is specifically designed and equipped to handle the loading and unloading of goods and materials for trade and commerce and that handles the movement of goods and cargo for commercial purposes.

This includes:

  • loading and unloading of ships,
  • managing cargo storage,
  • organizing schedules for ships,
  • meeting very strict schedules and completing tasks in timely manner.

Why to use an MB Crusher Unit at a commercial port?

There are several reasons why the customer opted for the MB Crusher solution for this particular task and jobsite:

  • The MB Crusher Bucket is a versatile attachment that can be used on any excavator, skid steer, or backhoe loader, designed to crush various materials, including inert demolition material, asphalt, concrete, natural stone etc.
  • It can be displaced with the heavy machine carrying it, so it becomes a necessary tool for all those working environments that are busy, narrow, and trafficked such commercial ports are. This is a real plus, if compared to larger crushing equipment that needs for plenty of space to function, that cannot be displaced that easily  and that need additional heavy machinery to load and displace the material to be crushed.
  • It is cost-effective but it also enhances efficiency and productivity, allowing to meet the desired TPH and to complete the task in a timely manner.
  • It is a sustainable solution that reduces environmental impact, by limiting Co2 emissions for not having to use additional equipment for the work, and increases profitability.
